Holidays

It’s Turkey Time, Turkey Time, Turkey Time

The time of sharing and feasting has descended upon us here in Azeroth and it is time for the Pilgrim’s Bounty. I don’t know whether one of the holiday developers at Blizzard is a mage or not, but boy howdy, is this ever a holiday for us arcane types. Pilgrim’s Bounty is a holiday designed to make us mages filthy stinkin’ rich and I’m not going to lie – I am definitely close to purchasing a Traveler’s Mammoth. Do you want a cut of this delicious (Stormwind) cheddar? A guide to help you maximize some of the annoying achievements with your mage-ly skills? Then listen up, put on your pilgrim hat, we’re going turkey hunting.

First off – this holiday requires a lot of travel between the cities for the cooking dailies and the cooking one-time questline. While the quests lead you in a fairly direct fashion as to where you must go, they are still pretty far from eachother. You also have to travel to Exodar for the Pilgrim’s Paunch achievement. So obviously, this is where a mage’s portals and teleports are going to help out immensely. And while you’re doing this for yourself – why not make some money while you’re at it?

What I found best was offering up a portal to wherever you were personally going next and then setting up a raid to take donations/tips from people to take them with you. Just use /yell or /say to ask and see how many people you get. Also be on the lookout for people asking for portals at each spot. I’ve made quite a bundle from generous people – 10G tips, offering 5G for a portal somewhere. While it might seem good to have a fixed price, often people will be overjoyed to just tip you well. And you’re keeping in the spirit of sharing! (As we speak, I’ve made 90G while writing this article and standing around in Ironforge.)

This holiday is quite interesting and features Blizzard’s exciting vehicle mechanics, that I am sure confused quite a few people from the outset trying to sit at the table and getting the buffs to work.

But enough jibber-jabber! Onto the achievements, as there are quite a few.  (Do remember that these are not for the What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been meta-achievement.)

El Día de los Muertos Comes to Warcraft

Ais celebrates Day of the Dead

El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) has come to Azeroth and you should celebrate it while you can. Enjoy dancing with Catrina, making Bread of the Dead, or playing around with your temporary dancing marionette (I named my Boneypants), as they will be gone by tomorrow! This has been quite a fun holiday – no worrying about grinding for achievements or pets so just lots of shameless vanity-fueled fun. I’m going to set lots of skull candles down in my raid tonight for that extra +4 SPI to get us through Trial of the Grand Crusader.

This is Hallow's End

Yes, it is that time of year again in Azeroth – full of tricks AND treats. Spooky monsters and shenanigans are around every corner, and sweets are bursting from the seams! I love this in-game holiday more than almost every other holiday in-game mostly because autumn and the REAL Halloween is so fun to me. Having it in Warcraft is just as good.

Achievements have damaged some of the really pure fun that Hallow’s End has brought earlier years, but I am not sweating it too hard, unlike some other religious achievement-doers I know. I’m one pet away from the Hallowed title on both my mage and my priest, and this is just from last year. Blizzard really likes making RNG factor heavily into this stuff, but this is no reason not to enjoy the spirit. Many guilds hold costume parties, and I always have an RP event or two to attend in this vein.

What I most like about Hallow’s Eve is the delicious, delicious vanity – I love wands, pumpkinheads, and candy that changes you into stuff! I’m a freak when it comes to carrying around vanity items in my bags so I can change into something different on a moment’s notice. My favorite thing right now is the Hallow’s End candy that turns you orange and huge. I love running around terrorizing people as a gnome on my Amani Warbear, Colbert, when we’re both giant and orange. Pair this with some Winterfall Firewater, and you have an amazingly scary gnome (or three!) on your hands.

However, this entry is not just all about me! Here are some (helpful) Tricks and Treats from this year’s Hallow’s Eve Event, for all you veteran and nooby mages regarding some of the festivities:
